| My dachsund (just like the picture!) loves this blanket. It doesn't matter where I put it in the house, he finds it. And I always know where to look for him! |

| This is a great dog blanket. It keeps them warm at night, so they don't jump on my bed and wake me up at 2am. Amazon's price is great, I bought my first one at a small pet store and got ripped off. Now I have one for each dog, and it's been the best thing I ever bought for them. |

Review of Thermo Pet Throw

| I purchased this item for my daughter, who lives in Nepal. She wanted a small 12 volt electric blanket to use when seated in her room. I have not tried out the Thermo Pet Throw myself, but have sent it to her. When I hear how it works in her mountain home, I will let you know. |
Good product, but not really what I expected.

I hate to not give this a five star, because I don't think the product is really a bad product; it's just not what I expected. Since I don't think the summary really explains things well, I wanted to let others know.
This product seems well made to me, although we'll give it a few months with my two 50 pound dogs and see for sure. It has two power options that it comes with for 12V or 120V operation which is nice. It's good size, and despite one reviewer's comment on the "feel" of the fabric, it seemed fine to me. I even napped on it with my Dalmatian for a while.
The problem is that I expected something similar to an electric blanket for humans. Something that would be very warm to the touch and quite toasty. This product doesn't work like that. It never really gets warm to the touch. When you read the manual, it says to leave it plugged in for a few HOURS, then put a pillow on it for few minutes, then put your hand under it an feel the warmth. It works exactly like that. I didn't time the few hours part, but after having it plugged in all morning you can lay down on it and the part of you touching the blanket will warm up. It won't get HOT, but it is definitely warmer than just a blanket.
As far as Pet Approval, my dogs will lay on it, but don't search it out. I really think something warmer would be better, but it could be the manufacturer is worried about catching something on fire, or the dog chewing into a heating element. The instructions warn not to leave the blanket plugged in, but considering it takes so long to warm up that doesn't seem practical. I leave mine plugged in and haven't noticed any problems.
Hope some of that helps future shoppers. :) |
